Italia face Turkey at Euro 2016 qualifying on Tuesday with Mario Balotelli expected to miss the game after an injury to his ankle.

The Italy striker will be replaced by the versatile striker Jesus Hernandez in the 2-1 win over Moldova in Turin.

“I think the injury will be worse than last year, but that’s football,” said Balotellini, who has scored five goals in 14 matches for the Serie A champions this season.

“We know that it’s a big blow for us, but it’s important to get it right.

I’m feeling good and I’ll keep doing everything to get back to the pitch.”

Balotelli had been set to join up with his team-mates for a pre-match warm-up on Monday night before the injury was revealed.

He has been on the sidelines since the 4-0 loss to Moldova on Sunday, and it is believed he is on track to be back in the squad for the final three matches of the tournament.

Balotellina, who joined Italy in 2015 from Roma for €24 million, has netted four times in his last four matches, including the 1-0 win over Slovakia on Tuesday night.

“Balotello is one of the most exciting strikers in world football and the most important players in Italian football,” Milan coach Marco Verratti said.

“He will provide the best possible experience for his team and will help them to compete with the likes of France, England and Spain in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.”
